Justin’s Ramblings

As you have read by now, we had a really productive camping trip. We didn’t stop for the whole week and got tons of steps and physical activity. I don’t think we have ever slept that well on a campout! We are now looking forward to continuing our progress and achievements that we started with during the Heart Challenge. I have gained muscle, endurance, and lost weight and laziness.

Well we have been working.  While not doing a scheduled workout, we still get physical and very tired moving furniture and boxes and cleaning.  And cleaning.  And then we throw in park festivals and scout camps.  I got about 45000 steps in 3 days at scout camp.  The best part of that, I wasn’t tired or worn out, and I kept up with a group of 8 11 year olds for all 3 days.

This past week I have been either going all out, or not doing much. I think I just averaged out this week, but we still got outside and had fun. Even though it was hot, we still got out and played around. I am much better at tennis and baseball, and Basketball. We have been doing a lot of moving. Brenda and I got to go use the weight room at IMC again and I love being able to lift again. I didn’t realize how much I have missed it over the years.

This past week I have felt somewhat like the Tasmanian Devil. There has been a ton of things to do with the kids getting out of school and just keeping up with life. I do think I have been more productive than I have been in a long time, mostly because I have spent the last 48 days being more active. I am getting to the point where sitting still just makes me a little crazy and I have to get up and move. I don’t want to sit in front of the TV for more than a movie, and I am really enjoying getting outside and moving! I have even been running here and there, something that I haven’t done for years. It’s only going to get better from here! #MyHeartChallenge

There is a tricky balance with this whole “healthy” thing. Between getting the kids to school and Brenda to work and doing household chores, we have to find time to exercise, as well as make healthy meals, and have family time and have sleep. This challenge has been good for the whole family to find some of that balance. Yes there are enough hours in the day. We have been making a priority of getting outside and playing with the kids, and being very active. I haven’t played basketball in years but I got out and ran the courts missing 99.7% of my shots. I ran the bases just for fun. I ran and chased balls all over the tennis court. I did pullups and ran up and down the park equipment after the kids. I am definitely doing this! #MyHeartChallenge

*This week I am trying to get better sleep. I don’t sleep enough. I have been tracking my food well, and working out, (I was actually running today…I know…) so I am trying to get the last bit of the whole figured out
